Forestry

Forestry is a monumental landscape that unfolds as an immersive "gesamtkunstwerk" within the Nieuwe Schatkamer of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) at Frederiksplein in Amsterdam.

Renovated by Mecanoo architects and sustainable building specialist SPIE Nederland, the DNB building has been transformed into a sustainable, future-oriented and publicly accessible space.

Commissioned by the DNB Art Committee and Housing Department, Forestry reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, ecology, and craftsmanship.

The artwork is composed of Claudy Jongstra's signature natural materials — wool from Drenthe Heath sheep that has been dyed with plant-based pigments derived from calendula, woad, St John’s wort, common goldenrod and dyer’s broom. The warm colour palette is sourced from Studio Claudy Jongstra's botanical garden and biodynamic farm as well as from the dye garden at DNB’s private location in Zeist, cultivated by ecological gardener Hans Engelbrecht.
